Trademarks & Designs
Trademarks
Trademark law is the lifeblood of any marketing campaign and allows you to protect the economic success of your company’s brands.
Registered trademarks provide a 10-year monopoly that is infinitely renewable for a distinctive sign that allows you to differentiate yourself . This can range from your logo, your packaging, the names of your products… to an animated presentation of your company. While the principle is quite simple, the practical considerations are numerous:
- Which products should be protected by my trademark?
- For which territories should be trademark be protected?
- Is my trademark still protectable notwithstanding the existence of a similar trademark?
- Which pitfalls should I tackle to avoid unnecessary costs when registering a trademark?

Did you know that IFORI:
- Was the first to file a multimedia trademark at the European level
- Was one of the first offices to register on the European platform to combat piracy of our clients’ goods
Designs
Sometimes, looks are everything
It certainly works that way when it comes to design law. This peculiar intellectual property right grants you a monopoly on specific design or layout of a 2D or 3D external aspect of an artisanal or industrial product (clothes, watches, headsets, furniture…). It goes without saying that this intellectual property right is prominent in sectors such as fashion, product design or even in the software industry.
The minimal requirements for registration are twofold: the protected design must be new and must have an individual character.

IFORI will also take care of the filing of a design application with the intellectual property offices and will conduct opposition procedures and enforce your rights. Our added value
Design law is an often overlooked intellectual property right. Often it can be combined with other rights such as copyright, trademarks or even patents, making it a bit of a dark horse among the traditional intellectual property rights.
