Sensolus, a Belgian SaaS and IoT player active in Europe, the US and Canada, noticed that “legal as a side job” was no longer sufficient.
Contracts, compliance and international regulations required structural support. With IFORI, they opted for a different approach: a dedicated lawyer who knows the company inside out, supported by a team of experts. Not a classic external advisor, but an in-house legal partner as an extension of the team.
The result? A shift from reactive to proactive, faster decisions, better control over risks and legal support that grows with the company.

IFORI thinks along as a partner. They understand that we don’t have time for legal theory — we need pragmatic answers that move our business forward.
Tom Codron, COO Sensolus
Who are you and what is your role within Sensolus?
I’m Tom, Chief Operating Officer at Sensolus. In that role, I am responsible for the operational operation of the company — from people & culture to customer service, quality to internal processes and compliance. I am the point of contact for everything that keeps the organization running and scalable.
What does Sensolus do?
Sensolus is a Belgian B2B SaaS and IoT company specializing in asset tracking. We help industrial customers — such as logistics, production and transport — to monitor their non-motorized assets such as trailers, containers and pallets in real-time. Through our platform, we combine hardware, connectivity and data analytics into an end-to-end solution. So we make assets digital, enabling customers to feed a lot of AI processes. We are active in Europe, US, Canada and a number of other emerging countries, work with international clients and are in a strong growth phase.
How did you come into contact with IFORI?
Through a recommendation from a colleague who had experienced IFORI as in-house legal counsel at his previous employer… another ‘born global’.
What convinced us was the combination of two things you rarely find together: real legal depth and an understanding of how a fast-growing tech company works.
What made you decide to work with IFORI?
What convinced us was the combination of two things you rarely find together: real legal depth and an understanding of how a fast-growing tech company works. Traditional law firms think in terms of hours and files. IFORI thinks along as a partner. They understand that we don’t have time for legal theory — we need pragmatic answers that move our business forward. The scalable formula, with a dedicated lawyer but an entire team in the background, was also much more financially attractive than a traditional firm.
What was the legal situation like before you started working with IFORI?
The CEO did most of it himself. Contracts were complex, long and not tailored to our specific context, drawn up by a large consulting partner. People with real knowledge of our company disappeared and their lawyers were called in ad hoc without continuity or business knowledge. In terms of compliance — GDPR, AI legislation, the Data Act — there were ad hoc initiatives (focus for a while and then fade away again). That created real risks in terms of liability, and also simply took a lot of time that would be better spent elsewhere.
When did you feel: “we need structural support here”?
For me, it was a confluence of factors. On the one hand, the growth itself: more countries, more customers, more complex contracts, more data that we manage. On the other hand, the increasing regulations. At a certain point, we realized that we were accumulating legal risks without realizing it. That is the moment when ‘legal as a side job’ is no longer sufficient, no matter how good the knowledge of it is.
They have become a true trusted partner — not an external service provider but an extension of our team.
What has IFORI done as an in-house legal partner?
They have become a true trusted partner — not an external service provider but an extension of our team. With one dedicated lawyer who knows the company and our business through and through, but with a full team in the background. Pragmatic, hands-on, and multidisciplinary about legal, compliance, and IP.
What does the collaboration look like today?
We have full budget control, work with a single point of contact but enjoy the continuity guarantee of a team — even during holidays, illness or peak times. The scalable structure, from 1 to 5 man-days per week, fits perfectly with the dynamics of a scaleup. And the lead times are short — that’s essential for us.

The most noticeable difference is the ongoing shift from reactive to proactive. In the past, legal problems only became visible when they were already a problem.
What is the biggest difference since IFORI took ownership?
The most noticeable difference is the ongoing shift from reactive to proactive. In the past, legal problems only became visible when they were already a problem. Now gaps and liabilities are identified and addressed at an early stage and contracts, ToS, etc. are aligned.
There is also the ambition to further develop internal training courses on legal, IP and compliance. This will create more awareness throughout the team — not just Kristoff (our CEO) and me.
Suppose IFORI were no longer around tomorrow, what would you feel right away?
To be honest: vulnerability. We would immediately fall back on the old model of ad hoc external aid — expensive, slow, and without the business knowledge that IFORI has built up. But even more than the practical impact, I would feel the loss of a sparring partner who understands where we want to grow. Legal advice is one thing. Someone who thinks about the business implications is something completely different.

The collaboration provides structural value and gives us the confidence to make decisions faster and more certainly.
How would you rate our collaboration (1–10)?
A 9. The collaboration provides structural value and gives us the confidence to make decisions faster and more certainly. The reason it’s not a 10 is simply because there’s always room for growth — but that’s true for any partner.
Would you recommend IFORI?
Absolutely — and specifically to companies that are recognizable to me: scaleups in tech, companies with an international profile, IoT or data-intensive SMEs, and any company where the CEO or management team is currently taking care of legal matters themselves for lack of a better solution. IFORI is built precisely for that context.
Anything else you would like to add?
What I would like to pass on to other entrepreneurs: legal support is often seen as a cost item. We experience it as an investment in speed and security. The time freed up by no longer sifting through contracts or figuring out compliance questions ourselves goes directly to what we really want to do as a company: grow and deliver value to our customers.
