Nicola Audenaert

Nicola is a legal counsel who specializes in Intellectual Property and ICT law. He graduated from Ghent University and obtained an additional master in IP and ICT Law at the KU Leuven.

At IFORI, Nicola bridges between the IP and IT department, and advises clients both in the private and public sector on both subjects (often simultaneously). Nicola also serves as IFORI’s open government specialist, in which he has built up significant experience since joining IFORI.

As legal counsel, Nicola assist both large companies and SMEs in drafting and reviewing contracts, auditing and protecting their intellectual property, negotiation and dispute resolution, as well as legal and GDPR compliance.

Nicola is also a published author. As a student, he wrote an article for the Rechtskundig Weekblad on the Pešková judgement of the European Court of Justice. After joining IFORI, he co-authored IFORI’s latest book: “Praktische leidraad voor de handel in kunst en antiek in België” with several of his colleagues.

Nicola is fluent in both Dutch and English and French. He is detail-oriented, persevering and deliberate, focusing on the interests of his clients, while simultaneously seeking a solution that works for all parties involved, avoiding conflict later down the line.
